Time Management

Being A college Student Athlete Time management is the number one thing you need to worry about. The reason I say this is because if you don't manage your time wisely you could really get caught off guard with everything. So let me help you on how you could be a better student athlete.  There are really 3 main steps to help all college athletes and I learned from my coach last year during the football season.

3 MAIN STEPS

1) Student Planner- The student planner helps you get all your classes in the time slots they are held. Also if you have practice and anything else you an put those specific things in the time its being held. Then when you are done doing that you should look at your shedule and see if you can manage the schedule you have. If not then try to ask your advisor if she can try to help you schedule your classes so you could have enough rest time because if not it will catch up to you.

2) Use your academic support- The academic support which are your academic advisors, also tutors  for any subject. They make things easy for you because they understand the hardwork and struggle it takes to be a successful student. But as far as being a student athlete some of the advisors hae no clue all of the hardwork, struggle, and stress us athletes go through.

3) Being accountable for yourself- This is the number 1 step that can take you a long way throughout your college career. If you do your work things will be easy on you but also have a good relationship with your teachers because they can make or break your college career. You don't want a teacher to mess up your life. That's why you need to be accountable for everything you do in your college career and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Should college athletes be paid?

There has been a lot of talk going around about college athletes being paid. I personally believe as a college athlete myself we should be paid. The main reason is because our names are being put out there representing the university as for Division 1 schools players jersey's are being sold and the universities are making money off of us. As long as there is college sports they use the players names to sell products. That is not fair to the players because what are they getting in return? Its kind of like we do all the work and play as hard as we can to get the school money. It is frustrating because this is very true and they are trying to work something out with this situation but they don't know how they should repay us back.

Study Hall

Every one may wonder what is study hall? It is a structured period in the day when us athletes who have lower then a 3.0 GPA go to a study room as a group and do homework and school related things. At Mercyhurst on the football team we are required 6 hours a week of study hall. We go monday, tuesday, and wednesday every week. Each day of study hall there is a coach there to make sure we are doing our work and also there to get us help on whatever we need help in no matter what subject we are having the problem with. This ties into the ELIGIBILITY. No matter what if your GPA does not meet the requirement then you could be in study hall for all the years you are in college.
